Church managed to secure the loan signing of Hereford striker James Roberts until the end of the season.
A big thanks to Premier Global Sports and to Hereford, helping get this one over the line yesterday.
Beginning his career developing through both Wycombe Wanderers youth setup and Oxford United’s academy, Roberts signed his first professional deal for Oxford at the age of 16.
Leading scorer for the youth team in both his last two seasons at that level, it came as little surprise when he was offered a professional contract with Oxford United in May 2014.
James scored twice on his full debut at Grimsby in the FA Cup first round in November 2014 as a teenager and followed up with another in his first league start at York the following week.
His winning goal at Plymouth in December 2014 was voted Oxford United’s Goal of the Season for 2014/15.
Roberts spent the second half of the 2015/16 season on loan to Barnet and the first half of the 2016/17 season at Oxford City before a shorter loan at Stalybridge Celtic.
Roberts then continued to develop on loan, joining Guiseley for the remainder of the 2017/18 season scoring three goals in 18 appearances.
Following his release from Oxford, Roberts joined Evo-Stik Premier Division Northern Premier League outfit Halesowen Town FC at the beginning of the 2018/19 season.
Hereford Head Coach Marc Richards secured his services for the Bulls after noting his superb form for the Halesowen, with Roberts netting eight goals since the football season began back in August 2018.
Church secretary, Steve Denny, commented, "it was a busy day yesterday, trying to get this one over the line by the 5pm deadline, but everyone is delighted to have James on board. He is a striker that scores goals, which is something we have been lacking all season to be honest. The manager has always been interested in James and with the help of chairman Richard Thorndike, PGS Ltd and Hereford, we are delighted to have made this happen. Welcome on board James."
