Rushall Olympic 1-2 Alvechurch
By Lewis Glennon
Church strike late for win
Kieran Cooks late goal gave Alvechurch a huge three points against Rushall Olympic.
Manager Ian Long had called for a response from his players following consecutive defeats; and got just that as Cook's goal earned the win after Mitch Botfield's opener.
The game throughout was very even with little chances for either side. Simeon Maye fired wide for Rushall, while Tom Turton saw a low free-kick go just wide and Yusifu Ceesay saw his shot saved by Joe Slinn. However, on the stroke of half-time they took the lead. Mitch Botfield's free-kick took a deflection on its way into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
The second half followed the pattern of the first, with chances being little for both sides. Josh March fired wide from range, while Botfield's ambitious 25 yard volley went just over the bar. Despite this, the home side did equalise though; with their captain Ashley Sammon's superbly firing into the top corner with a well taken strike.
This led to a energetic finish with both sides pushing for a winner. It was Alvechurch who got it though. Substitute Andre Landell was fouled when through on goal, but referee Scott Tallis played a good advantage allowing Cook to latch onto the lose ball and win the game.
