Biggleswade Town 4-2 Alvechurch
By Lewis Glennon
Disappointing day for Church
Alvechurch suffered a disappointing loss to Biggleswade Town to fall outside the play-off places.
With Tuesday's game against Stratford Town postponed, Ian Long's side came into the game having not played in two weeks but were deservedly beaten by their hosts.
Church made the worse possible start when after four minutes Biggleswade striker Joe White ghosted into the box to head the ball in. This led to Alvechurch dominating possession, but they could not create a real chance.
Mitch Botfield fired over from range, while Josh March saw a weak shot saved by Sam Donkin in the Biggleswade goal. Meanwhile, at the other end Paul Evans had to be on hand to deny White a second following a one-on-one situation. Eventually, the home side did double their lead though; when Matt Ball curled the ball into the bottom corner.
Despite this, Church gave themselves a lifeline when in first half stoppage time March scored from a corner. However, in the second half Biggleswade took over penning Church back. White fired wide and Ball forced another save from Evans. In the middle of this Ash Carter, making his first start since returning to Alvechurch, headed over from a corner.
Biggleswade did extend their lead though. A long throw into the box wasn't cleared and Bradley Bell flicked home their third. Ball then found himself in plenty of space to grab his second and seal the win. Andre Landell grabbed his first league goal for Church late on; but it proved to be only a consolation goal with Josh Ezwele's red card only adding to their misery.
With the result bringing an end to the club's good form off late, Long will hope his players can turn it around when they face Halesowen Town on Tuesday night.
