Church battle to goalless draw
Alvechurch battled out a hard-fought draw against fellow play-off rivals AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
Both these teams have made good starts to life at Step 3 football, but neither side could find a breakthrough as the game ended goalless, meaning that both clubs end the weekend in the play-off places.
Despite this there were chances for both sides. In the first half Dave Bellis, Ash Carter, and Andre Landell all forced saves from Rushden keeper Ben Heath, while Josh March headed just over from a corner. As well as this Paul Evans was on hand to make a save from Declan Rogers free-kick.
In the second half the game continued to be a tight affair. Evans was on hand to save from Alexander Collard, while Rushden forward Tom Lorraine fired wide. Church then nearly took the lead, when Landell got on the end of a Kieron Cook pass but he was again denied by Heath.
Rushden then saw two chances saved by Evans as Ben Farrell and Joe Curtis tried their luck, but the game finished all even, with neither side giving an edge.
That result means that it is now three league games without a win for Ian Long's side and they will be hoping to change that when the travel to Lowestoft Town next week.
