Leiston 2-0 Alvechurch
By Lewis Glennon
Church suffer away day defeat
Alvechurch fell to their first loss in seven games, as Leiston took advantage of some individual mistakes to grab the three points.
It was Leiston who created the first chance of the game, with defender Joe Jefford having a header cleared off the line by Zack Foster. From here however, Alvechurch dominated possession of the ball. However, they could not create many meaningful chances, with Taylor Morrison being denied by a superb Kyle Hammond block and Josh March firing wide of the post.
In the second half Church struggled to reach their first half tempo leading to Leiston creating a number of chances. Will Davis and Christy Finch forced Daniel Crane into good saves, while Matt Blake fired wide of the goal with just Crane to beat.
Leiston did eventually take the lead however. Finch's free-kick was parried by Crane and George Keys was on hand to stab home the re-bound. Keys was then shown a straight red card just ten minutes later for a high tackle on Andre Landell.
This led to Alvechurch pushing forward in the hope of a goal, but Kieran Cook's tame effort was easily saved by Marcus Garnham in the Leiston goal. With Church piling bodies forward, Leiston launched a long ball up the field which found Finch who slotted home to seal the win.
The result will be a difficult one for Church to take, but manager Ian Long will know that they will have no time to lick their wounds as they prepare for a huge game next week against AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
