“It was obviously disappointing to go out of the FA Cup last weekend but it was even more concerning that we turned up at Belper with only 15 or so fans. When we beat them 2 seasons ago in the Trophy, we took more than 60 so it’s a tough one to take when it looks like our following is dropping.
I understand we had some really popular players like Josh March last year who brought his whole family and their friends but even so, we were light on the ground for a journey which is just over an hour.
It’s true that we’ve had to rebuild the whole squad this season and that in itself can cause issues. Looking at our division, most squads that have lost more than 7 or 8 players from their first eleven have not had the best of starts to the campaign. Teams with far bigger budgets than ours have suffered indifferent starts so it’s no secret that it’s tough for new managers.
Darren has assembled a decent squad that are just starting to click, so it’s right now where we need our fans to show their support the most. If we have a decent crowd it gives everyone a lift, including the players and ultimately we’ll be in a much better place if the lads know the fans are behind them.
We have over 500 junior players in our club and over 120 coaching staff. If they, plus some of the locals from the village made the effort to come down to Lye Meadow when we’re at home it really would make a difference.
Tomorrow we have a tough game against a side that should really have beaten Stourbridge convincingly a couple of weeks ago so that shows they’re a quality outfit. What better day to start showing the lads your support?”
The home game tomorrow is against Peterborough Sports and kicks off at 3pm.
