After five successful years at the club within our Women's section, now is officially the time to wave goodbye to Scott Wilkinson in the dugout as he makes the tough decision to step away from it all.
Scott brought his Girls Under 14's team over to the football club in 2019. When his daughter and captain of the Women's first-team Kiely Wilkinson turned 16 two years later, he oversaw the change to his team. He was responsible for guiding the team into Women's first-team football.
In the 2021/2022 season, Alvechurch went the whole season unbeaten. Their first-ever season. Winning 14 games, drawing four, scoring an out-of-this-world 137 goals and conceding 11 at the other end across 18 games, our Women's first-team won promotion to tier seven of the Women's game. They finished in 2nd place behind eventual champions Bourneville Ladies.
Following on from an impeccable season the year before, Alvechurch set their sights on tier six. Their winning mentality driving them forward for more success and a real installer of that belief was Scott. In the 2022/23 season, Scott Wilkinson and Missy McKenna guided the team to back-to-back promotions but this time, they added the league title to the cabinet.
An enthralling title race with Coventrians Ladies. Only one team could achieve it. Both teams finished level on points, games won and games lost. So it came down to goal difference. Having beaten Coventrians in a title show-down a month before, it put Church in prime position to secure the title. But, the race wasn't done. It was now all about who could score more goals than the other to see them seal it.
A 16-goal swing ensured Church' promotion to tier six. A wonderful achievement for Scott and Missy. At the end of that season, he also won the Open Cup after beating Sutton Coldfield Town Women Reserves in the final at the home of Evesham United to end the season with a double.
Another season. Could he do it all again?
Having stepped away to pave the way for someone else to take over, he still couldn't let go of his Alvechurch coat. Having seen the departures of Scott Saunders and David Healey very early on in the season, Ben Davis & Craig Walton were next in line. Scott joined up with the duo as they embarked on another adventure towards their dream.
An unbeaten season once again and now just the one defeat across three seasons with Scott involved in Women's football. Back-To-Back-To-Back promotions for the man, the myth and the legend. Back-to-back league titles in the process saw The Church reach tier five of Women's football for the very first-time in their history.
With this, Scott has been involved in tier five so far, but now due to the workload he has taken on, it has been more difficult for him to make the decision to step away.
Some of his stats will be left below across those eye-catching three seasons...
