This Saturday the first team travel to Six Ways stadium to play Worcester Raiders in the first of 6 matches between ourselves, Raiders, Bromsgrove Sporting and Redditch Utd. The team with the most points after playing all their fixtures home and away will be presented with the Red Recruitment Cup.
As the County FA have refused to sanction the competition we are not allowed to call it a tournament. The reasons why Worcester FA aren’t fully behind member and affiliated clubs organising a competition to pull in some desperately needed funds is beyond me. Maybe it’s the same reason we were kicked out of defending the Worcester Senior Cup - someone in authority felt it necessary!
We are however, allowed to play friendlies with fans and, subject to some hastily arranged seating and some even more hastily arranged bowls of chilli con carne, we will be able to serve beer!
The four teams in question will all operate Covid19 safety measures and one thing is for sure, despite the ‘friendly’ tab, we’ll be desperately trying to beat our opponents for some bragging rights.
Bromsgrove thumped us 4-1 last season but of course that result has been scrubbed out with the null and void ending so it means (officially) they haven’t beaten us for a while!
Redditch Utd have truly turned things around and Matty Clarke has got them playing some decent, winning football.
I have a feeling this ‘non tournament’ will have its fair share of fireworks and we implore all our fans to travel home and away with us so that our opponents fans return the favour and add some much needed funds to the coffers. This is true non league - we need you there.
Look out for something different should a match be drawn!
Can’t wait to see you over the festive period and rest assured all precautions will be taken to make sure you watch every fixture safely.
Up the Church!
