Byfield begins with a win

Alvechurch won their first pre-season game under Darren Byfield by putting four goals past a Littleton side who made a good account of themselves.

The game marked the start of a new era for Alvechurch with Byfield taking the managerial reigns and a number of new players joining and departing the club over summer.

However, the first goal was scored by a midfielder who has played a large part in the clubs success of recent years who gave them the lead, as Mitch Botfield scored with a superb half-volley just three minutes into the game. Rahis Nabi then fired over the bar from range as Alvechurch look to put their mark on the game early on.

Littleton hit back though, with Dean Fisher being brought down by Taylor Morrison after a good run into the box. Fisher got up and calmly slotted the ball into the net to level things up. Alvechurch quickly restored their lead within a minute however.

New signing Danico Johnson did well to round Littleton keeper Tom Parson's before beating two men and slot home. Again Littleton came with Luke Rowlands firing wide while Nabi forced a great save from Parsons.

A fine run from Nabi then saw him play the ball to Johnson who slotted home his second of the game before half-time.

In the second-half Alvechurch fielded a near enough different side and sealed the win with Morrison beating his man and slotting the ball in. This led to the visitors controlling the game more; with Littleton creating a few chances of their own in the second-half.

Danny Moy fired over the bar, while Jade Ferron managed to get on the score-sheet having been denied a goal minutes before.

The game proved a good opportunity for a number of players to 'blow of the cobwebs' of last season and Byfield will be hoping his side can get another good run out when they welcome West Bromwich Albion's u23's to Lye Meadow on Saturday.
