Church came off second best in this first of a double-header in four days against high riding Nuneaton Borough.
The game was effectively over on the stroke of half time when Waite lashed in the home side’s third goal, adding to his own header on 27 minutes and a second goal scored on the break by Stenson after 40 minutes after Jezeph had blocked a first effort, but the Nuneaton man was first to his feet to steer the ball into an unguarded net.
Church dominated possession in the second half, but in a forty five minutes where goalscoring chances were very much at a premium, only managed to pull one back, and that with only minutes remaining. Tom Edge’s flash of individual perseverance, a highlight after he came on as a late substitute, saw him surge through the Nuneaton half and steer the ball in across the face of keeper Breedon into the far corner for an excellently taken goal.
It will be a different game at Lye Meadow in four days time, and if Church welcome back as many of their missing personal as possible there is a fair chance of a turnaround in fortunes.
