Alvechurch were unable to pick up a much needed three points as they suffered a heavy derby day loss to second place Bromsgrove Sporting.
Dean Holtham's men made the perfect start to the game, when after seven minutes Kyle Perry headed in from a Mitch Botfield cross against his old club. On a boggy pitch the game became a midfield battle with Alvechurch matching Sporting. Gregg Mills saw a shot deflected over for the visitors, while Church defender Linden Dovey clearing Mikey Taylor's shot off the line.
On the stroke of half-time however, Taylor poked home to level for Sporting and this ultimately changed the game. A few minutes into the second half, Richard Gregory was afforded too much time in the box and calmly fired into the net.
The stacks became further stacked against Alvechurch when Joe Hull was sent off for a collision with Sporting keeper Max Beardmore. This led to Bromsgrove dominating the rest of the game resulting in two goals to add gloss on the scoreline: the first being a stunning 30-yard strike from Josh Quaynor and the fourth coming from a Gregory penalty.
Alvechurch now travel to Redditch United on New Years Day in a huge six-pointer knowing that if they are to get out of this current bad run then a three points is a must.
