Alvechurch put in a lacklustre display as they fell to a defeat to Royston Town.
It was the visitors who created the first chance of the game; with Ben Martin heading wide from a corner. Church responded with Kyle Morrison heading just over the crossbar.
When these two side's met on the opening day Royston troubled Alvechurch with a number of set-plays and this proved the case again as Spyros Mentis heading in from a free-kick to give the visitors the lead.
Royston nearly doubled their lead a minute later, with Adam Watkins winning the ball in midfield and forcing a save from Joe Slinn. Slinn was then on hand to deny Matthew Bateman before Kevin Monterio saw a header easily saved by Royston keeper Joe Welch.
During the second half, Louis Monaghan found space in the box and as the ball bobbled up it appeared to striker a Royston defenders arm. However, a penalty was not given but what followed led to an incident involving Monterio and Welch; which resulted in the Royston goalkeeper being given his marching orders.
Despite this massive advantage Alvechurch looked lacklustre and didn't put too much pressure on Royston. Lewis Wright slashed wide and Kyle Perry headed over but they were unable to put a dent in the Royston back-line's armour.
Alvechurch will be looking for a better response when they travel to Barwell next Saturday.
