Ten Man Church Hold Onto Unbeaten Home Record

Church preserved their unbeaten home league record with a gritty draw, coming from behind and with ten men. An all too common sight this season.

Church conjured up the best chance in the opening exchanges when Taylor threads the ball through the defensive line to find Gordon, and the latter flashes the ball against the face of the post.

Mackenzie Lamb saw red on 29 minutes after a rash tackle, and went in at the break a goal behind after Miller scored with a well taken curled shot from just outside the box after 32 minutes.

Church began the second half positively but Foster was the first keeper in action on 54 minutes, having to save well at the foot of the post after a corner was recycled. But two minutes later at the other end a double effort is blocked by last ditch defending to deny Gordon and then Concannon as the ten men pressed for an equaliser.

The leveller came on 71 minutes when Dyer drilled the ball into the box, and Gordon reacted first to fire the ball into the roof of the net.

With ten minutes to go, and with Church applying increasing pressure, keeper Johnson handled outside his area, receiving a yellow card. But Church were unable to provide any further punishment.

Another chance on 89 minutes when great feet by Clayton-Phillips sets up Dyer, and his ball across the box is met by Taylor but his goal bound effort is blocked.

Church finish strong, and a point is the least reward given the circumstances.
