Church claim first league win of the season
Alvechurch picked up their first league win of the season, blowing away Redditch United with an excellent first half display.
Goals from Dave Bellis, Josh Ezwele, and Will Davidson own goal inside the first 20 minutes gave Ian Long's side the three points. Church came into the game full of confidence after Saturday's FA Cup game against Bromsgrove Sporting; and took less than a minute to get off the mark, with Bellis, making his first start of the season, heading home.
Alvechurch were attacking the Redditch back-line at pace, and quickly doubled their lead. Ezwele picked up the ball out wide, cut inside and curled home his first goal for the club. Things got even better for the home side eight minutes later, as a good Alvechurch move led to Davidson turning Kieran Cooks low cross into the net.
The home side continued to push despite their three goal lead, but Danny O'Callaghan could only head over at the end of a brilliant first half.
The second half saw Alvechurch control the ball for the large part of it, but they still required keeper Matthew Sargeant to Leam Howards. Sargeant was on hand again to also deny Giancarlo Gabbiadini; while new signing Trea Bertie fired wide for Alvechurch and Jamie Willets headed over.
Alvechurch then saw out the rest of the game for an impressive win which see's them move up to 12th in the table. They will be looking for their third victory in a row when they take on Needham Market on Saturday at Lye Meadow.
