Match Report By Jamie Hughes

A spirited Alvechurch U19s side were defeated 3-1 against a strong Warwick U19s, despite a strong second-half performance at The Hayes.

After a cagey opening 10 minutes, Warwick had the first opportunity to take the lead, but Alvechurch goalkeeper, Logan Ellis made a comfortable save. The visitors kept piling on the pressure on as they made had another attempt which travelled just past the post.

Despite the early domination from The Racers, it was Alvechurch captain, Dieter Schwarm who struck for The Church in the 19th minute after a quick throw-in was taken by Korey Peets-Fearon into the path of the returning Jaelon West, who did well to flick it onto Schwarm who delivered a brilliant left-footed half volley to send Church into a 1-0 lead.

Thirteen minutes later, Church had a huge chance to double their lead when West won the ball in the final third and worked it out to Niah Bell who's shot was saved by the Warwick keeper, denying the young attacker.

Warwick’s number 16, however, levelled the scores six minutes before the break, after cutting inside from the left and delivering a low shot into the bottom corner, dragging his side back into the game.

Straight from kick-off, Warwick were immediately back into the Alvechurch box, but fortunately the shot sailed wide - Church were holding on.

The home luck would inevitably run out, as our opponents went ahead in the 41st minute after a long ball over the top was finished excellently by their left wing-back, whose strike nestled into the bottom corner.

A few minutes after the second-half began, Bell saw another chance whistle just wide, after Schwarm's initial attempt was blocked.

The pressure was steadily building nonetheless, as a recycled chance from a long throw forced the opposition goalkeeper into making a sensational double save - first to deny substitute Ben Tate and then to keep out West. Church were left stunned as to how the scores weren’t level with half-an-hour to play.

Rather anti-climatically, that was the best Church could come up with despite large spells on the ball. It got slightly scrappy in the latter stages as West received a yellow card for a bad foul whilst Warwick's defender also received a yellow, that occasion, it was for delaying the restart.

Sadly, Peets-Fearon was forced off with an injury in the dying stages leaving Alvechurch with 10-men for the remainder of added time as all substitutions were made.

The visitors soon pounced on the 10-man Church, as their number 17 struck home in the 104th minute to seal the victory for Warwick.
