Alvechurch were knocked out of the FA Cup, after a poor display against a clinical Corby Town team.
Church came into the game on a seven game unbeaten run, following Tuesday's draw with Stourbridge, and were boosted with the news that Josh Ezwele returned following a groin injury. However, despite starting off well they went behind early on. Paul Evans's clearance was intercepted allowing the ball to fall to Corby midfielder Joel Carta who scored.
Ian Long's side did respond well, with a quick counter-attack seeing Mitch Botfield's strike saved, while Botfield and Kieran Cook also fired over. Eventually they did equalize. Good work from Josh March led to the ball falling to Cook, with the teenager firing the ball into the bottom corner.
This goal opened the game up, with both teams pushing forward for the second goal. Sam Warburton's low cross across the box couldn't reach any Corby defenders; before Carta struck again. Picking up the ball in midfield, he turned on the edge of box and fired past Evans to give the visitors a half-time lead.
Things got worse for Church in the second-half as two early goals put the tie beyond them. Firstly, from a corner Carta volleyed in to complete his hat-trick, and defender Jamie Anton took advantage of some poor defending to head in the fourth.
Alvechurch looked beaten and despite nearly scoring late on through March. who had shot cleared off the line, they never looked like completing a comeback.
The result is obviously a disappointing one but, as shown by their last lost sparking the recent unbeaten run Alvechurch are more than capable of bouncing back and will hope to do that against Bilston on Wednesday.
