AFC Wulfrunians 1-2 Alvechurch

Kyle Morrison's header gave Alvechurch a second pre-season win from three against a difficult and tricky AFC Wulfrunians side.

Missing full-backs Josh Ezwele and Taylor Morrison, who were both on trial at Bradford City, as well as midfielder Mitch Botfield; the game provided the chance for other players to impress manager Darren Byfield; and did so against the MFL Premier side.

On a warm summer's evening the hosts created a few early chances but their shots were off target; while Javia Roberts saw his side saved and Danico curled wide of goal as Church created chances of their own.

Morrison then headed wide from a corner, while Johnson had a shot cleared off the line having rounded the goalkeeper. Alvechurch keeper Bobby Biddle then got down low to deny the AFC Wulfrunians winger, who then fired the re-bound wide to end an entertaining first half.

As in the previous two friendlies, changes were made to the Church side in the second half and it substitute Ant Smith who made an instant impact. A Church corner led to the ball falling to the striker and, while his first shot was initially blocked, he curled the ball into the top corner superbly.

Biddle was then on hand to again make a stunning save; this time preventing a Kyle Rowley own goal after a cross deflected goal-wise off of the defender. Wulfrunians did equalise soon after however.

A corner dropped to Craig Gregg and his shot beat Biddle via a deflection to level the game up. Smith curled wide for Alvechurch and Roberts forced the keeper into a save before Morrison got the winner; meeting a Babacar Suane corner to head in and secure the win.

Church are next in action when they welcome National League North side Leamington Football Club to Lye Meadow.
