In Tim Flowers' debut game as the new Alvechurch first-team manager, he gets the perfect start to his tenure. Having been appointed earlier on in the week, a disrupted schedule of training due to the snow and ice meant that Flowers had met his players for just one day before Church' showdown with mid-table opposition Bedford Town.
As mentioned in the byline, Church' form in the league is beginning to falter and start-of-the-season expectations starting to fade slowly, but not fully. A win to kick-start the new era is what the new man at the helm wanted alongside all that visited Lye Meadow for the afternoon's Southern League Premier Central match.
A single goal from the towering header of Archie Crowther was enough to snap up all three points in the awful windy and wet conditions. Omari Sterling-James did see red on 65 minutes, so the home team's ability and resolve was gratefully tested but Church stood up to the challenge to come away with a precious but also long awaited home win in the league.
