In stark contrast to the game on the previous weekend against Redditch, this match up proved to be an enthralling spectacle, showing two really contrasting sides to this Church side in one game.
In the first half, Church threatened to blow the opposition away with wave after wave of swift attacking play, with intensity and purpose, whilst in the second, there was an inevitable response from Sporting that allowed Church to showcase their ability to dig deep and rebuff anything that is thrown at them.
Church began very much on the front foot, and after 4 minutes a great one-two between Erik Savkin and Dan Sweeney sees the latter through on goal, and the Church striker forces keeper Price into a blocking save at his near post. From the resulting corner the ball travels all the way to the back post, and Brad Stretton drives on target, seeing his goalbound effort hacked off the line to safety.
The pressure is all flowing one way at the moment, and a Dyer cross is headed over his own bar by a retreating defender, under pressure from Sweeney as the momentum builds. The corner causes Price some concern as he punches up and over for another corner. This time Stretton's delivery proves to be the keeper's undoing as he flaps at controlling it, and Sweeney has no hesitation in driving the loose ball in from close range.
Church are well on top, and need to make their superiority count whilst they are.
It's 29 minutes on the clock before the visitors carve out a threat on the Church goal, with Hollingshead having to make a near post block after a quick break up the right and ball across tom the far post gave Robinson a brief sight of goal. On 37, a better chance perhaps after Meddows delivers a ball over the top to Robinson, and taking the ball over the shoulder, the Sporting front man volleys into the side netting from 20 yards out, and in a threatening position.
Within two minutes though there is a much better complexion on the score as Church profit from two flicked forward passes that move the ball deftly through the Sporting defence, Carter misses a potential intercepting header, and Sweeney is in behind, and as Price advances to confront him, he lifts the ball over and in from the edge of the box for two-nil.
There is a little flurry from the visitors as the first half draws to a close, as Carter heads on target forcing Hollingshead into a good close range save, and as the ball is recycled, the Church keeper tips another effort over the bar to preserve his clean sheet.
Last chance of the half falls to Church in stoppage time as Stretton curls on target from 22 yards, with Price palming the ball away at full stretch.
Half Time: Alvechurch 2 Bromsgrove Sporting 0
Inevitably, Bromsgrove play a stronger role in the second half as they chase a way back into the game. Stretton demands another full stretch save from Price on 50 minutes as the Sporting keeper repels another 20 yard free kick, but then Bromsgrove seem to find a new will and way to put pressure on the Church goal. On 56 Shaw flashes a shot just wide from just inside the box after a good break down the right by Meddows and squared ball into the heart of the Church defence, and it signals a sustained good spell for the visitors for the first time in the game, as Church seem to take a more submissive role.
It comes to a head on 69 minutes when Bromsgrove move the ball smartly through the heart of the Church defence before Shaw steers the ball past Hollingshead from 15 yards to register a completely different look to the scoreline.
There is further threat on the Church goal, including a stoppage time scramble where the ball comes back off the post, but the points are staying at Lye Meadow as Church secure their fifth successive home league win since losing to Stratford on Boxing Day.
