Kieran Cook's goal earnt Alvechurch a fully deserved point, as they drew with Tamworth at the Lamb Ground.
Church came into the game looking to build on Saturday’s draw with Royston Town, but had a nightmare start, with Kyle Finn firing Tamworth ahead after just 30 seconds.
Manager Ian Long opted to put in three teenagers in his starting eleven, and was rewarded for this decision as the lively Cook equalised. The winger latched onto a lose ball and, after shrugging off Tamworth defender Rhys Sharpe, equalised.
In a physical game both sides created plenty of chances, with Danny O’Callaghan firing wide for Alvechurch and Finn nearly curling home a superb second goal, as well as seeing a goal ruled out for offside.
The second half was as lively as the first, with Josh March firing over and wide in quick succession. The home side responded with Kristian King firing over from the edge of the box, before March saw a powerful volley tipped over by Tamworth keeper Jasbir Singh.
Tamworth were then given a golden opportunity to take the lead. A free-kick saw Alvechurch keeper Matt Sargeant into a save, but the re-bound lead to Tyrell Waite being brought down. Despite this Waite saw his penalty tipped onto the post by Sargeant.
As the game was coming to the end, it was Church who nearly got the winner. Good pressing from March and Nathan Waite led to March picking up the ball, and with a free run to goal he was brought down by Green to earn Tamworth a point.
A draw was a fair result in an entertaining game. Alvechurch will be pleased with the start they have made to life at Step 3, matching both their opposition so far; and will be looking to do the same on Saturday when they take on Coalville Town.
