Church spoil party

Mitch Botfield's late winner extended Alvechurch's winning run to three straight game's and denied Kettering Town the chance to win the league title.

Both side's came into the game needing the three points, with Alvechurch pushing for a play-off place and Kettering knowing that a win would secure the league title.

However, Ian Long's side were superb throughout and got off to the dream start just three minutes into the game. Tom Turton's corner found Jamie Willets who headed home his fourth goal of the season brilliantly.

This led to Kettering creating two good chances of their own. Firstly Dan Crane got down low to superbly deny Aaron O'Connor, before saving from Declan Towers with O'Connor putting the re-bound over the bar.

Church however, continued to impress and twice should have doubled their lead. James Roberts went through on goal but saw his one-on-one shot saved by Paul White, before Josh March hit a 40 yard volley with White out of his goal, which unfortunately bounced off the turf and hit the crossbar. Roberts was then once again denied by White as Church went into half-time on top.

The second half proved an exciting half and it was Kettering who scored soon after the re-start. A corner wasn't cleared leading to the ball bouncing around and eventually reaching Craig Stanley who headed the ball into the net. Dan Holman was then denied by a brilliant Crane save as the home fans cheered their side on.

Church however, continued to match their hosts; with Roberts again creating another chance but he fired wide off the goal. They then had to rely on Ash Carter doing well to clear the ball of the line before the dramatic end. Dave Bellis won the ball back, played through Andre Landell and he pulled it back for Botfield whose strike squirmed through White's hands leading to a great celebration for the visitors.

Landell then had the chance to add the icing on the cake but saw his shot saved by White. However, this miss didn't matter as the referee ended the game to confirm a huge three points for Alvechurch. However, they will not be resting of their laurels as they welcome play-off rivals Coalville Town next week.
