Church snatch dramatic point

James Roberts struck a stoppage time equaliser to earn Alvechurch a deserved point, in a frantic game at the War Memorial ground.

Ian Long's side came into the game knowing that three points would see them reduce the gap on Stourbridge to one point and got off to the best possible start when Roberts was brought down in the box with only a minute of the game played. However, Tom Turton could only fire his spot kick over the crossbar.

Despite this setback, Church did not let it get them down playing good stuff and creating the better of the chances in the first half. Aaron Llyod headed over and flashed a shot wide, while Jamie Willets also headed over the bar. For Stourbridge Gregg Mills showed good skill and flashed a shot wide of the goal, before Alvechurch took the lead.

Good pressing lead to Alvechurch winning the ball back and Roberts drove through the Stourbridge back-line before finishing well into the bottom corner; to give Alvechurch the lead at half-time.

Church continued their fast paced start into the second half, but Josh March's goal was ruled out. Moments later however, March had scored getting on the end of a Tom Tonks throw-in to head in.

This second goal rallied Stourbridge though. Two minutes later they were back in the game with Paul McCone brilliantly heading in from a corner. Stourbridge continued to create chances with McCone heading over this time, and the dangerous Luke Benbow flashing a free-kick well wide of the goal.

They did find an equaliser with half an hour to play. Mills cross found Kaiman Anderson and he converted the ball into the net. Robbie Thompson-Brown then saw a shot cleared off the line by Kyle Morrison before Stourbridge took the lead with their third headed goal of the evening.

A corner came back out to Mills and his cross found Aaron Hayden who put it past the helpless Dan Crane to complete the comeback. It was to be Church, and Roberts who had the final laugh however. Andre Landell's cross fell to Roberts and he finished clinically in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn his side a deserved draw.

The results means that one point from Alvechurch's final two games will secure a play-off place. However, they will not have easy competition when Banbury United visit Lye Meadow.
